Dr. H.J. Witteveen was born on June 12, 1921, in Zeist, Netherlands. He was educated at the Netherlands School of Economics in Rotterdam and received his doctoral degree in 1947.
1948 to 1963 Professor of Business Cycles and Economics at
the Netherlands School of Economics in Rotterdam
1963 to 1965 Minister of Finance and again from 1967 to 1971.
In between he was a Member of Parliament.
1973 to 1978 Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund
in Washington, DC.
He has been serving as director or advisor on international economic and monetary affairs to various international and Dutch companies.
Among others he was
Advisor to the Managing Board of ABN-AMRO Bank,
Member of European Advisory Council of General Motors,
Member of the International Council of Morgan Guaranty,
Director of the Royal Dutch Petroleum Company,
Chairman of the Robeco Group,
Chairman of ING Group.
He was a life-long member of the International Sufi Movement and is now its Vice-President.
