DIVINE WISDOM – DIVINE NATURE IN POLAND

Divine Wisdom – Divine Nature in Kraków, Poland! The exhibition Divine Wisdom – Divine Nature. The Visual Language of the Rosicrucians in the 17th Century will open in the Collegium Maius of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, on 3 October 2016. Dating back to the 14th century, the Collegium Maius is the Jagiellonian University’s oldest building. Copernicus was a student there, and so was Michael Sendivogius (Michał Sędziwój, 1566-1636), the famous Polish alchemist some of whose works will be included in this Polish edition of Divine Wisdom – Divine Nature. Sendivogius was acquainted with Michael Maier, one of the protagonists of the exhibition. The exhibition will run until 30 October, and will be accompanied by a Polish translation of the publication of Divine Wisdom – Divine Nature: Boska Mądrość – Boska Natura. On 4 October 2016 Esther Ritman, director of The Ritman Library, will speak at the symposium ‘The Alchemy of Rosicrucians’.

‘DIVINE WISDOM – DIVINE NATURE’ 2014-2018

After Poland, the exhibition ‘Divine Wisdom – Divine Nature’ will continue to travel to Hungary, Switzerland and the Czech Republic in the coming years and who knows what other countries in the future!

THE RITMAN LIBRARY ON THE MOVE

As our future premises of the House with the Heads are currently being renovated, we are not yet located in the library’s new home. However… our temporary office is only a few doors away on the same canal! We walk past the House every day; we’re not losing it out of our sight! It’s fun to all work in the same office space and we can all confirm that we are working very hard to help realize the exciting project of our Embassy of the Free Mind.

DIGITIZATION PROJECT

And we are finally off digitizing! Last week our curator José Bouman went to the storage space in Alkmaar where our pre-1900 books are currently housed. She helped digitization company Picturae pack the first batch of books to be digitized. We cannot wait to see the results, and will keep you posted about the progress. Finally, after years of wanting to make our core collection available online, it’s finally going to happen. More news is to follow!

SUPPORT THE EMBASSY OF THE FREE MIND
IN THE HOUSE WITH THE HEADS

The Embassy of the Free Mind in the House with the Heads is a platform for free and contrarian thought. The Embassy offers room for exhibitions, tours, presentations, debates and conferences. The Ritman Library, with its wealth of knowledge and its unique collection, will be the vibrant heart of the Embassy of the Free Mind. The collection of some 25,000 books tells the story of the Western spiritual and philosophical tradition and is, like the House of the Heads itself, inseparably connected to Amsterdam and its history of free and open thinking. freedom of speech and freedom of the press. As in the Golden Age, the House with the Heads will welcome the free spirits and independent thinkers of yesterday, today and tomorrow, from the Netherlands and abroad and be a home to artists and scientists, entrepreneurs and anyone seeking and offering inspiration and power of thought.
